Mark O'Brien
Mark O’Brien is the General Manager of Digital Technology & Innovation (CIO) at CITIC Pacific Mining, Australia’s largest magnetite mining and processing operation. He also serves as Chair of the Board for the Global Mining Guidelines Group (GMG), a global organisation that unites stakeholders across the mining industry to advance innovation, safety, and sustainability.
A regular contributor to both national and international initiatives in mining technology, Mark brings a unique blend of strategic leadership and deep technical expertise. His academic journey spans Mathematics, Computer Science, AI, Philosophy, and Ethics—culminating in his current PhD research on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Ethics.
Beyond his executive and director roles, Mark is passionate about shaping the future of technology leadership. He actively mentors emerging leaders and advises on the responsible and impactful application of technology in complex industries.
