Jim Galvin

Jim Galvin has professional qualifications in science, engineering and mine management and extensive practical international experience in mining operations, geotechnical engineering, risk management and workplace health and safety. He was Professor of Mining Engineering at the University of New South Wales from 1991 to 2006 before returning to industry practice. Jim has served on and chaired a range of Federal Government, State Government and industry appointed independent review and advisory panels and held appointments as independent safety advisor to the Boards of a number of international companies engaged in mining. Current appointments include Chair of the NSW Government’s Independent Expert Advisory Panel for Mining and a member of the AusIMM Ethics Committee. Jim is the author of a textbook on ground engineering in underground coal mining and has received a number of awards in recognition of his contributions to mining and geotechnical engineering and improving health and safety in the mining industry.
