Dr Paul Hancock transitioned from a 10‑year career in astrophysics, working with complex data and real‑world systems at scale, to a role at the Curtin Institute of Data Science (CIDS), where he leads the data science and software development teams with a focus on translating research into deployable systems. Backed by a strong, multidisciplinary team at CIDS, Paul supports and accelerates research across all faculties at Curtin University and works closely with industry partners on demand‑driven, operational research. He is a strong proponent of looking beyond surface‑level problems to identify root causes and develop solutions that make sense within the context of the research or business, and that can be realistically deployed and adopted.
