Global Open Innovation Colab at GRX25

The Global Open Innovation Colab was an exciting initiative launched at GRX25, uniting global leaders to collaboratively address shared challenges across the mining industry.

Held over three engaging sessions, the Colab brought together representatives from leading mining innovation hubs, research institutions and global partners, including CEMI, Expande (Fundación Chile), Global Mining Guidelines Group (GMG), NORCAT, Peru Mining Innovation Hub, Prospect Innovation, Rio Tinto, and BHP’s Think and Act Differently initiative.

Structured around three key themes - Connect, Strategise, and Align – delegates explored current initiatives, tackled barriers to collaboration, and identified priority areas for collective action.

The Colab culminated in the identification of three priority outcomes to guide future global collaboration:

  • Re-defining the narrative of mining – positioning the industry as essential, high-tech and critical to global sustainable development.

  • Embedding a culture of innovation – building lasting mechanisms to foster innovation at all levels of the sector.

  • Establishing an industry-wide innovation platform – enabling more open idea exchange, streamlined IP management and global collaboration.

Austmine will now take the lead in progressing these outcomes, coordinating next steps to convert the insights into tangible initiatives with long-term impact for the industry.

The Global Open Innovation Colab returns as a feature in the GRX26 program.
