A frontline view of innovation: Student program at GRX

Empowering the next generation of mining professionals to engage with world-first technologies, discover career pathways in mining and METS, and connect with industry leaders is a key objective of the Global Resources Innovation Expo (GRX).

At GRX25, the University Careers Open Day offered mining students a dedicated full-day program designed to spark curiosity and build connections. Breakout discussions explored some of the biggest challenges facing the sector today — from decarbonisation and digital mining to commercialising emerging technologies. These sessions, combined with speed networking with industry leaders, provided students with a dynamic and practical view of diverse career pathways across the resources industry.

Twenty students also participated in the BMA Future Leaders Program, which offered an immersive three-day conference experience, including:

  • Keynote presentations from global leaders in mining and innovation
  • Workshops aimed at inspiring creative thinking and practical problem-solving
  • Networking events and panel discussions to engage with industry leaders and future employers
  • Guided tours of the exhibition floor to see innovation in action

Looking ahead, GRX26 coming to Perth from 5–7 May 2026, will once again open its doors to students and new professionals ready to engage directly with innovation, challenge ideas and build networks across the global mining and METS community.
